Andrew Luck retired | or quit...so what?

This week has been somewhat annoying for me. I'm not a huuuuuge NFL fan, but I follow the Eagles #flyeaglesfly and I could enjoy Sundays watching football all day and sitting on my fantasy league chat talking trash or just enjoying my regular Sunday shenanigans. It's the enjoyable part of following a team.

However, I am not bothered by Andrew Luck retiring. I'm sure his fans are disappointed of course and understandably so. However, my annoyance comes from the ridiculous comments, downright disgusting comments even that people have said about him and his decision to retire from the NFL. It seems like for a couple days everyone commented on his decision. I even got into a little debate with the husband about it. One of his comments was, "What's going to happen to my fantasy league?!" Me: (eye rolls)Yes, I get it, the news is shocking! I was shocked too! I'm still a little shocked if I may be so honest. However, being a human being and recognizing that athletes are PEOPLE...yes, human beings just like me and you, I came to terms with him quitting almost immediately after I confirmed that the news was indeed factual. I supported a tweeters post about some of the shenanigans she had seen on twitter and I followed my support with a tweet of my own. Someone responded to my comment - with a comment not relating to mine :-/, which I respectfully stated. :-) Here it is:

I know people are all over the place with this. I know people equate athletes and celebretities with money, status, fame and heroism and all that other "stuff". But as I said just last night, athletes and celebrities are people. And while yes I would love to meet the people I admire most...like Stevie Wonder, Venus and Serena, and Obama for starters, I do recognize that they are human beings. They bleed the same way I do and their status in life does not make them less human. I have said human in this post a million times at this point. I guess I just want people to focus on the fact that we need to allow people...ALL PEOPLE...to be human.

So, that was my solid opinion. What is your take on it?
