Health & Fitness - Workouts & Resolutions
As you may have seen, I have been working out plenty the past few days especially since I got my car fixed - that has made me mobile. I also have fewer clients due to the holiday break, so I engage in activities I enjoy, like working out. I typically feel energized and yesterday was a one off. Being the therapist I am, I created a physical health goal. And yes, it is a SMART goal. My physical health "resolution" as you would say is:
I will become more physically fit by reducing fat from over 20% body fat to 10-15% body fat within 12 months.
Now, I actually have a goal body type I would like to achieve, but again, my doctor told me to take it easy with the workouts. If you read my health & fitness post from two weeks ago, you would know how much I currently squat on the Smith's machine. What I squat now is approx 65lbs less than what I squat now. I was well on my way to thunder thighs, which I like to see. Everyone has their preference. I like a full body type but I do not discriminate! I just enjoy seeing the product of my discipline. And this is really what I wanted to get into in today's post. Discipline. What does discipline mean to you? How much discipline do you possess and does it really only exist in particular parts of your world? For example, are you disciplined in your work place that you arrive to work on time but for the life of you, you cannot attend a family member's or friend's function without being less than 30 minutes late? Can you complete sex novel after juice sexy novel, but cannot find the time to crack open a textbook for school? That is what I am referring to. Discipline in some things or discipline in all things.
I will say discipline in all things is a huge struggle for me. I am not a perfect creature and I find that while I teach, counsel and support others with building communication, conflict resolution skills, etc., I am not free of communicate and conflict resolution issues in my personal life. Why? I am not perfect, nor would I ever claim to be, but I do intend to hold on to those things that I consider areas where I am successfully disciplined. I value the work I do so I am disciplined about goal planning, appt setting and note completion for my clients.
When it comes to physical fitness and my diet, it is a lot harder to stay away from my other love - Cold Stone Creamery icecream. So, I have made Cold Stone Icecream my reward on cheat days or when I want t celebrate something special. Additionally, I have an accountability partner to help me with my workout and dietary plans. It is sooooo vital to have someone who can hold you accountable! Thank the Lord for my spouse who can serve in that capacity for me and I to him. Do you have a friend, spouse or a therapist that can hold you accountable for the goals/resolutions you have set for yourself? Many times our resolutions fail because we don't create SMART goals to accomplish them and in our weakness, we have nobody to hold us accountable. Our discipline can cover some things, but not all. However, those growth areas can become strength areas and your discipline can grow when strength exists. Do not be afraid to get an accountability partner in 2018/2019. This is your time. Claim it!
If you need an accountability partner, Visit the contact page of my website and inquire within: www.lpctservices.com My motto is: You can do this! I can help.
