In the News - 49ers cut Reuben Foster on Domestic Violence charges
I wrote a post not too long ago about domestic violence and provided the crisis number for persons experiencing domestic violence. Today, I wanted to focus on this article http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/25370143/reuben-foster-san-francisco-49ers-arrested-tampa-domestic-violence-charge
Line backer Reuben Foster was arrested and released for domestic violence charge.
Let me paint the picture a bit more for you. His ex-girlfriend, Elissa Ennis, reported domestic violence and then later recanted stating that she only did so because she was upset. When responding to her bruises, Ennis reported that her bruises from punches to the head and face were caused by a fight she had with another girl over Foster.
Now, she has reported domestic violence again - so, we have one of three things going on:
She lied before, but is not lying now.
She lied before and is lying now.
She did not lie before and is not lying now.
While a 4th option exists, it seems unlikely it would be the case. That scenario is that she did not lie before and is lying now. Be it as it may, Foster was arrested and released on $2,000 bond by his new girlfriend who posted a picture on IG. Foster thanked fans for their support. However, because of his arrest, Foster was cut from the 49ers 11/26/2018. This is not the only domestic violent case that led to career ending ramifications in the NFL. As this news is still fresh, there are many unanswered questions. It is difficult to provide an opinion one way or the other without enough facts on the situation.
What I would recommend is that both Foster and his new girlfriend see a therapist for their relationship. I would also recommend Ennis receives therapy as well to really assess the first incident and to provide her with the support needed to work through the trauma of both incidents. Even if both circumstances are false, there is a reason thes allegations are being made and that is something to be further investigated.
What are your thoughts? Did he do it? Is she lying this time?
UPDATE ALERT: I drafted this post when I first read the article. This is how quickly news can change. Redskins claimed Foster off the waiver wire this past Tuesday. On report claims that Foster will need to go through the process of going through the league, dealing with the police and his case and also getting counseling. (Counseling is so clutch right here. I already wrote it!) With this additional news, have another question: Should Foster be given a second chance?
